Thursday, August 4, 2011 Brockport, NY

Did anyone notice yesterday’s date? I must have been really tired last night. I’ve corrected the error.

Ready to get started
Getting out of Niagara this morning was a little convoluted, but we were able to dodge the glass and make a correction to the que sheet. Most of the day was on SR 5 East, a good highway with a good shoulder, but also with lots of loud traffic.  I never heard a bird sing. . .

Erie Canal
Going through Lockport, we were introduced to our first view of the Erie Canal that is maintained. We watched for awhile while two pleasure boats went through. Other than that the day was uneventful. Coming into Brockport, Linda and I pulled into the local bike shop which was on Main Street. The owner/mechanic was very kind to check the gearing on our bikes. Since we’re approaching the day of serious hill climbing, this was a comfort check for me. He seemed to think that I may want to get a new chain somewhere along the way. Then, he told us about Abbot’s ice cream which was close to our hotel and where the ice cream was exceptional. I had chocolate almond soft serve. J )  The Memphis girls are rooming together tonight.

Menu: Chicken Enchiladas (gourmet style and with all the trimmings, Salad, Spanish Rice, Black Beans, Fresh Fruit, Homemade Cookies (Mary Lee); Pumpkin Cookies (Linda B.)
